A record 78 teams took to the fields as action got underway in the first full day of competition at the 2026 European Touch Championships in Vichy, France.
Teams from 15 nations, as well as representative women's European sides battled it out across 13 divisions of competition. Host nation France took on Ireland in the Women's Open and Belgium in the Women's 27s during a memorable opening night at the Darragon Stadium in Vichy Town. It was an all women's occasion with the female team of officials joining the four women's teams.
All 78 teams paraded from the Vichy Opera to the stadium, alongside the 113 contingent of referees and referee coaches, as well as volunteers, and event staff. A local crowd cheered on the jubilant visitors as they made their way along the promenade to the Opening Ceremony and two feature games as part of the first night.
