Australia and New Zealand split the honours at the first Asia Pacific Opens event as 25 teams from 13 nations descended on the fabulous Glen Willow Sports Complex in Mudgee, New South Wales.
In winning both the Women's and Mixed Opens categories, Australia had already secured the title of Champion Nation, before New Zealand finished the tournament in style by clinching a nerve racking Men's Open in a 3v3 drop-off.
New Zealand's talismatic number 5, Ifor Jones secured victory for the Touch Blacks with two decisive tries - the first at the end of regular time, before his match winning effort deep into the drop-off.
Meanwhile, Australia dominated the Touch Blacks in the Mixed, beating them twice - the first 10-3 in the round robin pool stage, before their even more convincing 11-2 win in the Grand Final. They ran into a 7-0 lead before half time.
The Women's was much closer, with the teams drawing 5-5 after full-time in their round robin pool encounter, before the Aussies came out on top in the Grand Final, securing a 7-5 win.
Whilst the Emus and Touch Blacks came out on top, many of the other 11 nations impressed across the competition.
The Phlippines Mixed team ran New Zealand pretty close in the semis and overcame a spritied Samoa team to take the bronze. In the Women's, Samoa edged out Singapore to take bronze, whilst Lebanon beat the Cook Islands to claim bronze in the Men's Open.
Many thanks to all the competing nations players, coaches, support staff and referees, and a big thank you to Touch Football Australia and the Mudgee Region for hosting us.
