The next European Touch Championships will be staged during the first week of August 2022, the Federation of International Touch has confirmed.

England has maintained its status as host for the world’s second largest international Touch tournament, which in 2018 saw in excess of 3,500 players, referees, coaches and officials descend on the University of Nottingham’s Highfields Sports Centre, and while the venue is still to be announced for next summer’s event a similar number is expected to return to England.

“We’re delighted to be able to confirm the dates of the next European Touch Championships,” said FIT Events Director, Gary Reynolds.

“The pandemic obviously brought about two cancellations, so it was only right that England maintained the host nation status it had been awarded back in 2018, and now the whole European Touch community can look forward to a fantastic few days in 2022.”

England has already welcomed the Opens teams from the Home Nations for a pair of Test round robins, but now England Touch Association Chair, Mark Croston, is looking forward to a full European Touch Championships.

“The 2018 tournament has stayed strong in the memory and set the standard for 2022 which we’re aiming for,” he said.

“I’d like to thank FIT for maintaining our status as host nation, and for all of the teams and nations for their continued patience as we confirmed the dates.

“They’re obviously still a few unknowns with regard to the pandemic, but we are all positive that by the time next summer comes around we will be able to look forward to a fantastic five days.

“I know here in England the high performance squads are already looking forward to the winter planning, and have no doubt that other nations will be following suit very soon.

“We can’t wait to welcome everyone to England next summer!“

Full venue and booking information will be announced in due course.
