Fluffy Dragons Breath Fire on the Capital

The first installment of the German National championships, the Capital Cup, took place last week, with Frankfurt drawing first blood in the championships with a nail-biting 7-6 victory over Strasbourg; whilst the Fluffy Dragons from Den Haag took overall event honours on the back of a comprehensive 7-2 victory over JGA in the Final.

Sixteen team from 7 nations took their place in this year's event (2 teams from Italy, 6 from Germany, 2 from Switzerland, 2 French, 2 Dutch, 1 Austrian, & 1 from Guernsey) with players ranging in age from 16 into their 40's.

The first Capital Cup happened circa 2005 with only German teams participating, and has grown tremendously; today - with it's international flavour - it's the biggest tournament in Germany, and one of the biggest in continental Europe.

Fluffy Dragons (with the majority of their players hailing from the Dutch SMX team) proved too strong for the Guernsey based JGA to claim the overall spoils in this particular event; Paul Black (FD) and Lucy Ferin (JGA) were awarded Players of the Final.

German team, Frankfurt, took 3rd spot (and perhaps more importantly, #1 billing on the German charts) with a close 7-6 win over their neighbouring French cousins from Strasbourg. Only time will tell though who has bragging rights next time around.

The next instalment is the Cologne Cup on June 13th. Frankfurt currently lead the German contingent in the championships, followed by the Capital Cup hosts, Touch Berlin, then Munich, Colonia, Hamburg and BRC.
