Touch Football Qatar, in conjunction with the Hurricane Storms Rugby Club recently conducted the first ever Touch League over a five week period. The event was a huge success, attracting eight teams and showcasing some excellent Touch.

The finals of the inaugural Touch Rugby Ramadan League took place at Mesaieed Sport Complex on Friday night. In a hard fought encounter, it was the Hurricanes (pictured) who blew away the Rebels to claim the first ever-summer league competition.

Event sponsors Touch Football Qatar and Doha Rocks Café were on hand to witness this notable occasion congratulating participants and the Hurricane Rugby Club for its efforts in organizing such a successful tournament. In a tight match filled with much pride, an entertaining first half proved to be scoreless. Scoring opportunities were limited as both teams refused to buckle and at times stubborn as each other in defense. The second half however proved to be a lob sided event as the Hurricanes stormed into town, wrecked havoc and swirled to victory taking the Cup Trophy with a thumping 4-nil win.

Hurricane Storms President, Mr. Hans Thomasz was overwhelmed by his team's performance and the high standard of Touch Rugby played. He promised a bright future for the club and the sport, saying, "The Ramadan Touch League has produced the battle of the best in Qatar and this league is only a soft platform with a greater magnitude to follow."

President of Touch Football Qatar, Samuel Rico said, "Touch Rugby is the world's fastest growing community sport and today we have proved Qatar is not immune. What a fantastic tournament. It was played with the right vigor, tempo and spirit. Congratulations to the Hurricanes Club for organizing the logistics. Big thanks to sponsors Doha Rocks Café and most importantly thanks to all those who participated and made this evening a great success".

He then added, "In Qatar we have a 40% obesity rate, much higher than our counterparts in the region. It is very important that we continue to support Touch events throughout the country involving and inviting as many participants as possible. There is no better way to stay healthy and keep fit than playing TouchRugby and experiencing the thrill."
